In high school, I founded a charity called Kids4Kids, dedicated to raising funds for students in the foster system and creating safe, joyous events for children in our community. This initiative was inspired by my realization of the challenges faced by foster children, many of whom lack the stability and resources that are vital during their formative years. Motivated by a desire to make a positive impact, I rallied my peers and community members to support this cause.

One of our major fundraisers was organizing events like Trunk or Treat and an Easter Egg Hunt. These events not only provided a fun and safe environment for children but also served as a platform to raise awareness and funds for foster kids. The joy and excitement on the children’s faces during these events were priceless, reinforcing the importance of community and support.

Another significant event we held was Santa’s Workshop, where foster children had the opportunity to pick out Christmas gifts for their foster families. This event was particularly meaningful, as it allowed foster kids to experience the joy of giving, which is often a rare opportunity for them. The gratitude and happiness expressed by both the children and their foster families were incredibly heartwarming and highlighted the impact of our efforts.

Through Kids4Kids, I have witnessed the profound effect that kindness and community support can have. Our events not only provided immediate joy and relief but also fostered a sense of belonging and care among the participants. This experience has taught me the value of empathy and the importance of giving back, and it continues to inspire me to contribute positively to society. By creating these moments of happiness and support, we were able to make a tangible difference in the lives of foster children and build a stronger, more compassionate community.

This experience has significantly impacted my college journey and career aspirations. At the Colorado School of Mines, I am pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Biomechanical Engineering, driven by a passion to further support children in need. The lessons learned from Kids4Kids have profoundly influenced my desire to work in children's prosthetics. I aim to develop advanced prosthetic devices that can improve the quality of life for young individuals who require these critical aids.

My commitment to fostering positive change for children has only deepened with my education. Understanding the technical and physiological aspects of biomechanical engineering empowers me to create innovative solutions that cater to the unique needs of children. The compassion and drive that fueled Kids4Kids continue to inspire my academic and career goals, reinforcing my determination to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children through engineering and technology.
